Beautiful Calm Driving

30th Golf Celebrations - Randwick Coast Golf Course

COME ON, you only turn 30 once in your life right!?

So, instead of the (nice) quiet celebrations of last weekend, it was time to notch things up a little. By playing GOLF!?!

Okay, so it doesn't sound that crazy, but I figured, I'm getting older, so why not do something that fits that vein a little better... and then tweak it by loading the golf carts up with beer!

So I had the pleasure of Todd, Benny, Azz, Rog, Claire, Al, Wedge, Greg, Alan, Glen, Daniel, Conor, Spoons and of course, Lauren to head around the most part of 18holes (we started at 1, and were only on hole 5 by 3pm...). With some stunning shots hit by all, and, well, Rog managed to make one go backwards - it was amazing that we made it to the 13th/14th hole. As the sun dipped down, our gang short cut to the final hole to at least play back to the clubhouse... I could barely see my (10th) ball as it fell into the hole to make that satisfying putt sound.

We headed back to my place where Lauren had decked the place out with a childhood photo of me and some huge ass 30 balloons... the music played, the beer continued to flow, and we even had a huge profiterol cake... I was definitely 30 now; and just the old man hangover left to deal with.

Thanks everyone for making it such a memorable day for me. You are the bomb, and I love y'all.
30 year old Fon.

Lord, Don't Slow Me Down

It's Friday afternoon, I'm walking down George Street, Sydney, and each of my footsteps is hitting the hot pavement in time to the music in my ears. I have one client to go to and then it's time for the weekend. Summer is well and truly back and the last 10days have given me so many random grins as I've stepped out of offices onto business district back streets, busy shopping hubs and historical wharves, breathed in a lung full of warm air and felt like I was on the most potent drug available to mankind.

Tonight it was time for an impromptu pub crawl starting at The Arthouse Hotel, me and 3 others conversing the finer points of professional loyalty. Me and 2 others then hit the other side of the city at the Argyle where we practiced age old techniques of distraction and then as strong drinks took control of our mindset, willpower and purse strings - another of the crew fell by the wayside as a taxi ride to the Cross and a visit to the Dragonfly took the last two heroes onward into the early hours. My weekend had been born in similar fashion to many had around this time last year. Silly season is upon us.

Another Saturday beach volleyballing at Maroubra Beach, and then an afternoon checking out the markets in Paddington seemed to be a good enough way to recover from the night before. A few of the guys and myself hit an arthouse style Russian movie as a way to avoid pubs, bars and clubs... it did the trick.

I was gunning for 3 sports on Sunday, I went for some more laps at the Olympic pool with benny first thing, before hitting par on 2 holes of 9 at the North Bondi golf Course... at this point I should've been making tracks for Soccer practice at Centennial Park, but I'd hit my limit already... an afternoon on the Balcony cutting photographs from magazines as a mini project for my new photography course capped off an awesome weekend where we lost an hour to daylight savings.

Back to Black

I got to the Randwick Medical Research Institute trivia night just as the first round was finishing... some may say a little too late. Though with the final rounds, we managed to claw our way into contention of the winners prize but sadly just missed out. Therefore we took the runner up bag consisting of 6 bottles of Cascade, some Pringles and some random bits. A good fun night, that carried on that way over Jaegerbombs at the Royal...

I awoke early on Saturday and got up to make the most of the day... However, the big night soon caught up on me so I bailed on the usual rock climbing and opted instead for some leisurely solace visiting my 2nd World Press Photography Exhibition at the New South Wales Library. With my original plan of seeing James Morisson falling to pieces, I instead joined up with Rog, Matty, Benny, Loen and Con for some poker action... I won a single hand off a high ace... it wasn't to be my lucky night. But a fun night it really was.

Feeling guilty for passing up the exercise on Saturday, I took up Rog on his offer to go to the Royal National Park for a quick up n down of Lady Carrington Drive. A scenic 20k ride that I hit up last year... same, same, but with added crowds as it would seem everyone stays away from this beautiful place if it's a bit cold.

The weekend was garnished with a bit of fun down at the driving range where it was great to relieve some tension by hitting some little yellow balls 200metres with a driver... happy days, here again :)
